When does CELUS harvest monthly reports and what happens if it fails?

Modified on Mon, 14 Oct at 2:33 PM

CELUS uses data from previous months to plan downloads and schedules them based on the likelihood that the data will already be available. The details are accesible in the Stats for Geeks feature.

The Stats for Geeks feature in CELUS provides advanced users with detailed insights into how and when data is harvested for each platform. This feature offers a visual representation of data harvesting patterns and allows users to better understand when data for a specific platform is expected to be available.

How to Access the Feature

To access Stats for Geeks, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the "Platforms" page in CELUS and click the platforms you want to view:

        2. Go to the SUSHI tab. At the bottom of the page, you will find a collapsible panel labeled Stats for Geeks. Click on it             to expand the panel:

Key Features

Once you expand the Stats for Geeks panel, you'll see a graph that shows a probability curve indicating on which days of the month data typically becomes available for that platform. This curve is based on historical data for the platform—if enough attempts have been made in the past year, the curve reflects the specific platform's harvesting pattern.

If there isn't enough data for the platform (i.e., if there haven't been enough harvesting attempts in the past year), the system will display a generic curve. This generic curve is either:

  • Calculated based on the overall data harvesting trends for all platforms within your CELUS instance, or
  • Based on default test data if your CELUS instance doesn’t have sufficient information.

Show Attempts Option

The Stats for Geeks feature includes an option to visualize upcoming harvesting attempts. By toggling the Show Attempts button, small arrows will appear on the graph, indicating when CELUS will try to harvest data in the future.

Important note: The arrows represent a general model, and actual server behavior may differ slightly. For example, for certain platforms like Wiley, the model might predict three attempts happening on the same day, but in reality, CELUS always ensures at least a day’s gap between attempts to avoid server overload or restrictions.

Use Cases

The Stats for Geeks feature is particularly useful for:

  • Librarians and administrators who want to understand the data harvesting behavior for specific platforms.
  • Users who are troubleshooting why data hasn't appeared yet for a particular platform.
  • Power users who require detailed insights into the timing of data availability to optimize their usage reports.

This feature is a valuable tool for those who want a deeper understanding of how CELUS handles SUSHI data harvesting and for those managing complex platform setups.
